About Dr Naheed Akhter
Dr Naheed Akhter has practiced in the western suburbs of Chicago for over 30 years. She is known for her compassion and personalized approach, focusing on making sure the patient understands everything. She enjoys patient interaction. She is known for her patience and down-to-earth style of practicing medicine. This allows for a comfortable and trusting doctor patient relationship. One of her patients mentioned he repeatedly in a beautiful book, “A Random Interruption; Surviving Breast Cancer with Laughter, Vodka, Smoothies and Attitude.” She had high praise for Dr Akhter’s compassion and support in. dealing with her cancer.
Concomitantly Dr Akhter takes great satisfaction with practicing leading edge technologies in the field of gynecology. She is among an elite group of surgeons at the Hinsdale hospital (now called Univ of Chicago Advent-Hinsdale) who are certified in Da Vinci Robotic surgery. She is proud to give her patients the benefit of state-of-the-art technologies.
Dr Akhter did her graduation in Biology with honors from the University of Pune (Fergusson College). She earned her medical degree from University of Pune (BJMC). She was awarded the “Sou Parvati Bai” award in her final year of medical school.
She came to the United States and completed her internship at the University of Illinois, and her residency at Cook County General Hospital. She was selected Chief Resident in her final year of her residency. She was board certified by American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
She has served as a chair of the OB/GYN department at Hinsdale Hospital. She is married with three kids. She enjoys cooking, reading and traveling. She helps run a free clinic for the indigent in India and gives generously to many charities in the US.

She feels grateful to be in a profession where she can serve women and hopefully improve the quality of their lives.
